Calvary Baptist Church has been involved in a prison ministry at the Eyman Complex (Meadows Unit), Arizona Department of Correction, in Florence, AZ since March 2009.
Each Thursday evening from 6:30pm to 8:00pm a representative from Calvary B.C. meets with about 30 to 40 inmates who are assembled in one of their large visitation rooms. The inmates come voluntarily with their Bibles in hand ready to hear the teaching and preaching of the Word of God. The Lord has provided liberty for us to be able to teach the whole counsel of God.
The overarching strategy of the prison ministry is threefold:
1. Present the gospel message in part or whole in each message and “persuade” (II Cor. 5:11) inmates to receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, leaving the increase to the Lord.
2. Structure the Bibles studies at a high enough level to help inmates grow, develop, and be edified. (II Peter 3:18)
3. Constantly remind them of the “Comforter’s” power to help them through ALL of life’s trials and tribulation. Encouragement is a continuous goal. (I Cor. 15:57)
Currently, 3 CBC members have volunteer badges and are permitted to access the prison system. We are thankful to the Lord for this open door to touch souls for the glory of God. Inmates have received Christ as their own personal Savior. They are taking notes during these sessions, and the questions they are asking reveal that they are listening to the messages. Most of them are very enthusiastic participants in these Bible studies.
On numerous occasions Calvary Baptist Church members have designated their offering towards the purchase of Bibles for these inmates. Inmates very often come from very poor environments and do not possess their own Bibles.
Please pray that the Lord would continue to bless this special ministry. Pray that we would be empowered by the Spirit of God as we are ministering to people who have very serious spiritual needs and family problems.
"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
